ROUNDUP: Carr leads Patriots past Rebels

Jefferson County 6, Maryville 3
Brody Carr posted a perfect 3-3 clip at the plate, driving in three runs to lead Jefferson County past Maryville on Monday.
The Vanderbilt commit opened the game with a two-RBI double in the top of the first, followed by an Isaiah Kirk RBI single to take an early 3-0 lead. Kirk also racked up three hits with an RBI. Maryville responded with a run in the bottom of the frame, and drove in another on a single in the second. Jackson Ormonde added another run for JCHS in the top of the fifth to make it 4-2,
Nate Nichols followed with an RBI double, and Carr closed out the Patriots’ scoring with an RBI single.
The Rebels began to rally in the bottom of the seventh with a triple followed by an RBI groundout. Maryville drew a pair of walks before JCHS brought Carr it to close it out, which he did, earning the save on a groundout. Caleb Franklin earned the win, allowing five hits, two runs and striking out three in four innings.
Morristown West 9, Carter 1
Morristown West scored seven runs in its final two frames to rally to a 9-1 win over Carter at Wild West Park. After hitting his first two batters, starter Levi Blair struck out the rest of the side in the top of the first to start a seven strikeout evening. Sutton Smith, however, earned the win, striking out six and tossing four no-hit innings. Nate Ramsey got the scoring started with an RBI single in the first, followed by an RBI groundout from Logan Long. Blair hit an RBI double, Collin Rouse hit a sac fly and Connor Rouse hit a RBI single as part of a five-run fifth.
Urijah Marsingill scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth, and Collin Rouse hit another sac fly to close out the scoring.
Greeneville 10, Grainger 0
The Greene Devils scored eight runs in the third through fifth innings and shut out the Grizzlies for a run-rule win. Carver Turley, Josh Walker and Jackson Trent each collected hits for Grainger. The Grizzlies allowed just five hits, but six unearned runs and a three-run homer from WIll Harmon seald Grainger’s fate. Harmon also earned the win with eight K’s.
Softball
Daniel Boone 4, Morristown East 2
Daniel Boone opened the game with four unanswered runs to get past East on Monday evening. Boone had just two hits, but they resulted in three RBI, with the other score coming on an error. Brice hit an RBI single to close the deficit, and Analise Hughes stole home to set the final score in the top of the fourth, with the sides going scoreless in their final three frames. Paige Horner threw six two-hit innings with no earned runs and four K’s.
Maryville 7, Jefferson County 6
The Lady Patriots couldn’t overcome a seven-run fourth inning and fell to the Lady Rebels on Monday evening. Libby Longmire got the scoring started with a single to give Jeff a 1-0 lead, but it fell behind 7-1 after the fourth. Bella Watson hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth, and the Lady Patriots tacked on four more runs in the sixth with a pair of single and a sac fly, but they couldn’t complete the comeback.
