A one-car wreck near the Saint Clair community of Hawkins County left the driver injured Monday afternoon.
According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and from information obtained from the Hawkins County Rescue Squad, a 2002 Volkswagen UGX, driven by Nathaniel Bowers, age 60, of Tennessee, was traveling south on State Route 113 in the 400 block of Bacon Road.
While negotiating a left curve, the Volkswagen partially exited the roadway and ran onto an earth embankment.
The vehicle followed the embankment until all four tires were off the roadway.
The vehicle then struck a utility pole off the right side of the roadway and overturned.
The vehicle came to final rest on its top facing southwest off the roadway, which trapped Bowers. There were no passengers in the vehicle.
A landing zone was established for a medical flight helicopter at nearby Cherokee High School.
Bowers was flown to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
It was unknown whether Bowers was wearing his seat belt during the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
