Gunfire erupts in Bethel Grove, striking at least 4 homes — including one with several children inside, MPD says
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — At least four homes were shot up in Bethel Grove after gunfire erupted just after midnight Thursday between two groups of people, police said.
According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), it started as a shots fired call on Filmore Avenue before being upgraded to a shooting. But when officers arrived to investigate, they found no one was actually hit.
Witnesses told police it sounded like one of the shooters was using a gun with a switch.
One of the homes struck by the gunfire had four children inside, MPD said.
One of the people who was shot at told police that he was standing outside of a home with another man when an SUV and a car drove by and people inside the vehicle started firing shots. Both men started running and jumped into a car, police said.
The man arrived at a fire station and was treated for a scrape to his elbow, police said.
MPD said the man later admitted that he fired shots back at the vehicles.
