A 69-year-old Hancock County farmer died Sunday when the tractor he was driving fell off onto an embankment.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, around 4:09 p.m., Sunday, Steven Dorland, 69, was backing up a 1946 International-Harvester Super M farm tractor when he got too close to the edge on an embankment on Sherm Mountain Road and slid off the right side. The tractor overturned down the embankment before coming to rest against a tree.

Dorland was thrown from the tractor and got pinned underneath one of the tractor’s tires. Dorland died at the scene.
