The Renegades scored two runs in the first inning and rode the lead to the end, downing the Thunder 3-1 in the Morristown Parks and Rec Minor League City Championship.

The Renegades finished the season with a perfect 13-0 record, while the Thunder finished 9-4 with all four losses coming to the champs.

Leading the Renegades was pitcher Adley Andruws, who set the tone from the start by striking out the side in the top of the first. After Hadassah Morrisett drew a leadoff walk, Andruws stepped up to the plate and delivered a two-run inside-the-park home run to make it 2-0 no outs

However, Thunder pitcher Reagan Richards was able to force three straight outs to retire the side with a pop out and two strikeouts.

The Thunder got their first baserunner in the top of the second when Savannah Kalagian drew a one-out walk in the top of the second, but Andruws struck out the rest of the batters in the inning to bring the Renegades’ bats back out.

Kaia Sweeney singled for the Renegades with one out and later stole second, but Richards was able to retire the rest of the side.

The Thunder nearly got within one run in the top of the third when Jurni Weston walked and stole second and third, but the Renegades’ hurler again retired the side.

Andruws and Ryder Bock drew walks to lead off the bottom of the third, and a Lydia Worley single loaded the bases. Richards was able to strike out the next two batters, but Olivia Nastasi drew a walk to score one and give the Renegades a 3-0 cushion.

With the 90-minute time limit quickly approaching and bases still loaded with two outs, Kalagian made a play at third and delivered the ball to catcher Aria Derry, who tagged out the runner at home. There were just 20 seconds remaining on the game clock following the play, which allowed the inning to flip and give the Thunder bats one last chance to close the Renegade lead.

Derry then stepped up to the plate and got the Thunder’s first hit of the evening with a single, and she didn’t stop there, stealing second, third and home to put the Thunder on the board.

The Thunder rally stopped there, however, and the Renegades held on to take the City Championship.
