The Morristown East tennis teams continued their winning ways Friday against Carter High School. The Hurricanes and Lady Hurricanes dominated the Hornets at Tyson Park winning 9-0, 9-0.
Parker Spoone led the Hurricanes at #1 Singles with an 8-0 win. Jay Harrison and Jacob Lawson mirrored Spoone’s performance as they netted 8-0 victories against the Hornets. Senior Shelby McNabb picked up an 8-1 victory at #3 Singles and Andrew Hall won at #2 with a score of 8-4. Brady Gray contributed to the Hurricane victory with Jay Harrison in doubles as they thumped Carter’s Braxton Prkey and Ian Zancker 6-0.
The Lady Hurricanes breezed to a solid win led by Kathryn Hall at #1 singles. Hall won 8-2 as did Ella Harrison at #2 singles. Senior Terrie Lawson and Gretchen Ihle picked up 8-1 and 6-1 victories. Grace Harrison and Polly Jett won their matches 7-0 and 6-0. Maria Johnson picked up an exhibition win at #7 singles with a score of 7-5. All starters swept in doubles to give the Lady Hurricanes a 9-0 win against the Lady Hornets.
With the win, both teams improve to 8-2 in the season. Both squads have important matches this week as they travel for a rematch against Dobyns Bennet on Monday, an important road match against Sevier County on Thursday and lastly, the HillTopper Invitational on Saturday as they will compete against some of the best teams in the state.
