The Morristown East boys’ basketball team opened up their season on the road Thursday evening against Oak Ridge. While the Hurricanes battled, they could not overcome a slow start, falling 58-52.
Morristown East was led in the game by Micah Simpson, who finished with 24 points. Kyle Cloninger added 11 and Braden Ilic had nine.
Oak Ridge jumped out to a seven-point first quarter lead and extended that going into the half as they out scored East 11-6 in the second quarter. However, Simpson woke up in the third quarter with eight points and the lead was down to 40-33. Despite East out-scoring Oak Ridge in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats hung on for the six-point win.
Morristown East will be back in action on Monday, when they travel to Farragut to play.
