Zach Long named most outstanding Tennessee track and field male athlete

Grainger High School graduate and Tennessee track standout Zach Long, third from left, was presented with the Ed Murphey Award for the Volunteers’ most outstanding men’s track and field athlete this weekend at the 52nd Tennessee Relays in Knoxville. Long, who was celebrated on senior day Saturday afternoon, held off a kick from Indiana’s Kenneth Hagen to win the men’s 1,500-meter race on Friday at the event with a two-second PR, clocking in at 3:43.09 for the No. 8 mark in Tennessee history. The time is the third-fastest in the NCAA this season, in addition to being the fastest by a Tennessee athlete in 19 years.
