Walters State received its seventh straight Tennessee Community College Athletic Association All-Sports Award Wednesday night between games of a basketball doubleheader at ‘Z’ Buda Gymnasium.
TCCAA Commissioner Dr. Foster Chason was on hand to present the trophy to Walters State Athletic Director Derek Creech and all the Senators and Lady Senators coaches.
This is the 13th time Walters State has captured the prestigious award since its inception in 2001.
Creech commented, “Winning this award again is a tribute to all of our coaches who do a great job for us but more importantly to our student athletes that have enjoyed remarkable success at our school.”
This past season, the Walters State baseball, men’s basketball, golf, women’s basketball and volleyball all captured TCCAA regular season championships.
In addition, the baseball, golf, women’s basketball and volleyball teams all went on to win Region VII titles and progressed to the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournaments.
“What our teams have accomplished is truly remarkable,” said Creech. “It takes dedication and hard work by our coaches and the young men and women who represent Walters State in outstanding fashion. On behalf of the Walters State Athletic Department, I congratulate each and every one of you.”
Coaches on hand for the ceremony were Bill Carlyle (men’s basketball), Dave Kragel (women’s basketball), Bill Gardner (golf), Dave Shelton (baseball), Larry Sauceman (softball) and Megan Blaylock (volleyball).
