Lakeway Christian Academy baseball coach Chuck Hargis has announced the dates for the program’s inaugural baseball camp.

The Lakeway Christian Academy Youth Baseball Camp will be held on July 23-26 from 9 a.m. until noon each day at Carson-Newman’s Silver Diamond Baseball Complex in Jefferson City.

The camp is open the both boys and girls who will enter grades K-7 during the 2019-20 school year.

Players will have an opportunity to learn the game of baseball from Hargis and his staff, with an emphasis being placed on fundamentals and forming a love of the game. All players should bring a glove, bat, drink and snack each day.

The cost of the camp is $80 per camper.

Lakeway Christian Academy boys basketball coach Curtis Staples has announced the dates for the program’s inaugural basketball camp.

The Curtis Staples Summer Basketball Camp will be held July 22-26 at Cornerstone Academy in Morristown.

The five-day camp’s goal is to help each player become better at the game of basketball. The camp will be instructed by Staples.

Staples has more than 20 years experience as a professional player and coach. As a star player at the University of Virginia, he concluded his career as the NCAA Division I national record holder for made 3-point baskets. In 2006, UVA retired his No. 5 jersey.

Staples went on to play close to a decade as a professional basketball player, including stints in the NBA and Europe. He has trained student-athletes on every level from elementary school through college. He led Lakeway Christian to a 25-1 record and a NACA national championship this past season, his first at the school.

Signups are open for the 2019 Mike McDonald Fall Soccer Academy.

Skills and scrimmage work will take place at all sessions, which take place on Mondays beginning Aug. 19 for boys and girls ages 4-9.

The academy features a fun and friendly environment with Christ-like character building from McDonald, who coaches boys soccer at Berean Christian School and is a children’s church leader at Compassion Church in Morristown. He has 37 years of coaching experience in the United States and United Kingdom including many teams in East Tennessee and the Olympic Development Program.

Trap Shooting

The Three Rivers Longbeard Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is hosting their annual Allen Ricks Memorial JAKES event on Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Morristown Trap and Archery Club located at 2953 Cherokee Park Rd. in Morristown. The cost is $10 per child.

Activities include trap shooting, archery, BB gun, tree stand safety and more. Lunch will be provided.

The Field of Dreams Activity Center has announced registration for the 2019 Field of Dreams Fall Basketball League at the Field of Dreams Activity Center in Dandridge.

Registration is open through Sept. 30 for teams in the following grades: Junior Varsity elementary school, middle school and high school and Varsity elementary school and middle school.

The Fall basketball league runs from Oct. 12 through Nov. 23, and games will be played on weeknights and weekends with team preference available for scheduling. The elementary age group will play four eight-minute quarters with a running clock, with the middle school and high school age groups playing four quarters with a 10-minute running clock.

The cost is $100 per team.

Signups are now open for the a Co-Ed Midsummer Softball League, which begins on July 29.

The third annual Motown Masters Five-Man Swat golf tournament will be held at Millstone Golf Club on July 27-28.

The event, co-sponsored by Good Ole Days with a Calcutta auction and dinner on Saturday, will have an A, B, C, D and E player lineup for two days of golf. The entry fee is $110 per person, which includes the dinner on Saturday night catered by Good Ole Days. The auction will be at 7 p.m. that evening.

Soft drinks and beer will be provided on Saturday, and there are tournament prizes available. Teams are subject to approval, and early sign up is recommended.

Carson-Newman’s athletic department has set the Eagle Club VIP Golf Classic for Aug. 3 at Cattails at Meadowview Golf Course in Kingsport with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. followed by an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Individual entry for the event is $160. Single registration places players in a scramble, while an entire foursome can join for $600.

Each individual receives breakfast during registration, a Carson-Newman gift pack, eligibility for door prize drawings and green fees and a golf cart.

The Walters State Senators Club Golf Classic will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, at Millstone Golf Club in Morristown.

The tournament will be played as a four-man scramble, with the entry fee being $150 for a single player or $600 per four-man team.

Lunch and registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the tournament beginning with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Sponsorships of the event are available, with seven different donation levels beginning at $200 and ranging to $2,000. There will also be a helicopter golf ball drop for $10 per ticket.

Morristown East softball coach Robin Vannoy has announced tryout dates for the 2019-20 school year.

The tryouts will be held on Monday, July 29 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. for rising juniors and seniors and 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. for rising freshmen and sophomores. All players looking to participate must have a TSSAA physical dated after April 15 in order to try out.
