BOLIVIA, N.C. — Walters State played rude guests to host Brunswick Community College Saturday, defeating the Dolphins 97-80 on the second day of the Brunswick Classic.

The Senators (10-5) came into the game short-handed. Paris Taylor missed the game with an ankle injury and Luiz Machado was forced to sit on a one-game suspension after receiving two technical fouls Friday night in a 90-71 loss to Cape Fear Community College.

Losing two of their main offensive weapons did nothing to slow WSCC down as they put up 37 points in the opening half, then 60 in the second period as Brunswick got just as hot from the floor.

Walters State shot 43.2 percent for the game while Brunswick shot at a rate of 46 percent.

The difference came from turnovers as the Senators protected the ball, surrendering only 10 while Brunswick turned it over 21 times in the game.

The Dolphins opened the game on a 5-0 run thanks to a couple of free throws from Najee Thomas and a three from Jordan Campbell. A free throw from Kobe Powell and two from Anthony Jones put the Senators on the board three minutes in and the teams traded buckets, with WSCC finally tying the score 16-15 seven minutes in.

A Powell jumper would give Walters State its first lead, 18-16 and they never trailed again.

Damarius Boyd led the Senators with 24 points coming off the bench to pair with six rebounds.

Powell put in 20 points, seven assists and grabbed six rebounds. Jones was two boards away from a double-double with 18 points and eight rebounds. Sly Thompson scored 14 and recorded six assists.

Silas Love had a double-double for Brunswick, scoring 18 and grabbing 18 rebounds.

Jeremiah Pope had 16 and Trevon Spencer contributed 10.
