TAZEWELL, Tenn. — Walters State shot a combined score of +40 as a team to take eighth place in the 2019 State Farm Intercollegiate golf tournament at the Woodlake Golf and Country Club.
The Senators bested four teams to take the spot, including NCAA Division II South Atlantic Conference squads from Tusculum University, Virginia-Wise and host Lincoln Memorial’s “C” team. Roan State Community College finished in 12th.
First place went to host LMU’s top squad with a combined 16-under. Newberry finished second at 11-under and Queens was third at 4-under.
Freshman Hogan Herring was WSCC’s top performer in the final round of the tournament, shooting a 72 for a 4-over three-round scorecard. Freshman Chad Homan finished 7-over, sophomore Stephen Owen was +13, sophomore Drew Linkous was +17 and freshman Zach Wood finished +23.
The Senators will be back in action Monday hosting their own tournament at The Country Club in Morristown, Tenn. The Walters State Fall Classic will tee off at 9 a.m. for the two-day event.
