GREENEVILLE — Morristown needed just two innings to build a comfortable lead, but it just needs an extra day to finish the job.

The Morristown Little League Softball All-Stars pushed across nine runs in the bottom of the second inning, giving them a 12-2 lead over Greeneville in the Tennessee Little League Softball District 4 Tournament at Hardin Park.

It was then that heavy rain intervened and soaked the field, forcing the game to be suspended in the top of the third with Morristown ahead by 10.

The conclusion of the contest is set for a 6 p.m. start tonight at Hardin Park, with the winner advancing to Wednesday’s winners bracket game at 8 p.m. against the winner of South Jefferson vs. Smoky Mountain — which was originally scheduled to follow Morristown’s game against Greeneville on Monday and will be made up tonight.

Weather also interfered with the Morristown 9-10 Baseball All-Stars in their winners bracket game against South Jefferson at Field of Dreams in Dandridge. Although Morristown scored two early runs, rain stopped the game before one full inning could be completed.

As a result, Morristown and South Jefferson will start over with a 6 p.m. first pitch at Field of Dreams tonight, with the winner advancing to Thursday’s District 4 championship game at 6 p.m.

The Tennessee 9-10 Little League Softball District 4 Tournament commences tonight at Frank Lorino Park’s Bob Spoone Field as Morristown takes on Greeneville at 6 p.m., with the loser playing for survival at 6 p.m. on Wednesday while the winner plays in Wednesday’s winners bracket game at 7:30 p.m.

Morristown’s 11-year-old Baseball All-Stars face Rogersville to open the District 4 Tournament at Popkin Field on Thursday, with first pitch slated for 7 p.m.
