Going into their first season as a member of the TSSAA, the Lakeway Christian volleyball team found their caretaker on Monday.
Lakeway Christian announced that Abigail McFarlane will take over the Lions volleyball team. McFarlane, a former Carson-Newman volleyball player, will also serve as the administrative assistant for the athletic department as well as the PE/health teacher.
“Abigail is energetic and committed to pouring into the young student-athletes at LCA to create a successful volleyball program,” Lakeway Christian headmaster Stephen Denny said. “Her experience with excellent programs will set the tone of high expectation necessary for development. Her relationships within the local volleyball community will further enhance the opportunities at Lakeway.”
A native of Texas, McFarlane came to East Tennessee and the Carson-Newman volleyball program after a successful high school career. During her high school tenure at McKinney high school, McFarlane was an honorable mention All-League player and three-time letter winner. She helped lead her school to the playoffs for the first time in 17 years.
While at Carson-Newman, McFarlane led the Eagles to two NCAA tournament bids and an Elite 8 appearance. McFarlane was a team captain and a four-year scholar athlete. During her freshman season, McFarlane played in 28 matches, recording 241 kills and 132 digs. She had 10 double-digit kill performances.
McFarlane also brings in coaching experience from her time with Club Unite. McFarlane has coached club teams as well as led beach volleyball competitions.
Lakeway Christian will hold a meet and greet with McFarlane, as well as new football coach and dean of students Jermel Jones and strength and conditioning coach Nate Hoffmeister. The date for that meet and greet has not been announced.
