BRISTOL — Morristown West’s girls soccer team got off to a bittersweet start on Tuesday night.
The Lady Trojans couldn’t come away victorious, but they did play to a 3-3 stalemate with Tennessee High.
Emily Spain announced her return to the top of West’s formation with two goals for the Lady Trojans (0-0-1).
Nadia Manuel found the back of the net to round out West’s scoring, while Isabella Carattini tallied an assist.
West visits Sullivan Central for a 6 p.m. start on Thursday.
David Crockett 4, East 3
JONESBOROUGH — Morristown East fought back in the second half but couldn’t quite finish the job, as a keeper error resulted in a corner kick which David Crockett converted to eventually take a 4-3 win over the Lady Hurricanes.
Lina Montalvo finished a header for East’s first goal of the season, and Thalia Kyle found the back of the net before freshman Mckinzie Fishburn came through with the equalizer for East (0-1).
But the Lady Pioneers (1-0) broke the stalemate in the latter stages to emerge victorious.
“Hard fought game,” East coach Eric Wright said. “I’m proud of the girls. They played their hearts out in the second half.”
East entertains Dobyns-Bennett at Burke-Toney Stadium on Thursday, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
