For the Walters State women’s basketball, their preseason ranking must look familiar. The Lady Senators open the 2019-20 season ranked No. 16 in the country, the same spot the held in the final week of the 2018-19 regular season.

Texas boasts five teams in the Top 25, South Plains (Texas) leading the pack at No. 2. Last year’s NJCAA champion, Gulf Coast State (Fla.) will keep the target on its back as the top-ranked team in the country.

Trinity Valley (Texas), New Mexico Junior College, Northwest Florida State, Seward County (Kan.), Shelton State (Ala.), Florida Southwestern State, Hutchinson (Kan.) and Tyler (Texas) round out the Top 10.

Walters State opened last season ranked No. 9 and finished with a 29-5 record. They claimed the NJCAA Region 7 tournament title with a 58-51 victory over Chattanooga State on March 5 and made it to the second round of the NJCAA national tournament, falling 66-51 to Gulf Coast State College on March 20.

The Lady Senators open their season on Nov. 1-2 in the Senators Tip-Off Classic. They’ll face off against No. 21-ranked Georgia Highlands on Nov. 1 and No. 7-ranked Shelton State on Nov. 2.
