Cosby girls’ basketball program brought in a new addition to its coaching staff for the 2020-2021 campaign.
Kyal Clevenger will be standing alongside Lady Eagles’ head coach Cody Lowe on the sideline this year for his first coaching gig of his career. He joins Cosby’s team as the new assistant coach for the girls.
“I absolutely love this opportunity that Cody has given me,” Clevenger said. “I’m excited to get this going with him. He was such a mentor to me whenever I was here for my junior and senior season at Cosby. I feel like I owe him because he has given me so much.”
Many of the Cosby basketball fans might remember him pretty well.
Clevenger received All-District, All-Region and All-Tournament teams his junior and senior year, while being named to the All-State team his senior year.
“I came to Cosby my junior year and they stood behind me,” Clevenger said. “I ended up receiving all-state my senior year. I give all credit to Cosby for what they did for me in my basketball career. I want to do my part in helping these girls succeed as much as they can on and off the court.”
He decided to take on coaching underneath someone who he has known for a long time.
And what better way to start your coaching career than with a Lady Eagles’ team that has not dropped a District 2-A game since Lowe took over the program in 2017.
Clevenger will help out the fourth-year head coach in Lowe and is stacked with talent to work with along the way. Cosby’s senior group stands out among the rest with Bralyn McGaha, Leia Groat and Lauren Ford just to name a few.
“We have an experienced team this year,” Clevenger said. “I love what we have on this team. There are leaders up and down the roster. They help the younger girls and they do what is asked of them. It’s a great experience to learn with this group of talented girls. It’s great to do what I love with (Cody). I know he will help me as much as possible along the way. We’ve had a great relationship since I came to Cosby.”
There is no doubt the Cosby community is behind Clevenger in his first year.
