Lakeway Christian got off to a fast start on Monday evening but could not sustain it as they fell to Carter, 9-8.

The Lady Lions scored four runs in the first inning to take a 4-1 lead. However, Carter answered with three in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth to take control. Lakeway put up a fight in the bottom of the seventh, scoring to make it a one-run game. But that was as close as they would get.

At the plate, Lakeway was led by Katie Whitaker and Myla Russell. Both had three hits apiece in the contest while Whitaker had two doubles and four RBIs. Zayle Elkins also had a home run and two RBIs in the contest while Abby Goodall had a hit and RBI. Keirsten Neely and Kaydence Mantooth had hits as well.

In the circle, Katie Fultz got the start and threw four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out four. Elkins replaced Fultz in the fifth and pitched the remainder of the game, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out one.

Lakeway will be back in action on Thursday at home as they play their opening matchup in the TSSAA DII-A East Region Tournament. Their opponent is still TBD.
