Lakeway Christian Academy girls’ basketball team nearly pulled off the upset against DME Academy on the road in Jacksonville, Florida on Monday.
The comeback was nearly pulled off after being down by 15 entering the fourth quarter; however, the deficit built in the second and third quarter was too much to come back from. The Lady Lions fell to DME 61-57 in the Insider Exposure Tournament.
A win would’ve put LCA on the national map but the loss still holds a lot of value after going toe-to-toe with DME, who is the No. 1 ranked girls’ basketball team in Florida.
“I’m really proud of our young ladies’ fight,” LCA head coach Randy Coffman said. “We played DME in year one and lost by 40. We had the ball late with a chance to take the lead this year. Much respect for them being composed late. It is a solid step in this year’s journey.”
The Lady Lions outscored DME 25-14 in the fourth quarter but was outscored 30-15 in the second and third quarter.
Jordaynia Ivie led the way for LCA with 15 points. Maggie Vick tallied 12.
