Hamer to continue cheer career, signs with C-N

The Carson-Newman Eagles’ cheer club will be welcoming one of Morristown’s own in Emmalynn Hamer of Morristown East this fall.

Emmalynn will be going from cheering on the field of Burke-Toney Stadium to cheering on the field of Burke-Tarr Stadium in Jefferson City. The senior cheerleader cheered on the Hurricanes all of her four years of her high school career.

East’s cheerleading program and head coach Kim Harrison has done a lot to prepare Emmalyn for the next level of cheer, she said.

“I am so excited to cheer on the Eagles at Carson-Newman,” Hamer said. “I have put in a lot of work here in the cheerleading program. It has made some of the best memories of my life.”

Harrison had much of the same to say about her.

“Emmalynn has always been hard-working and dedicated,” Harrison said. “She was a part of a senior group that showed what we were all about. She was a leader for us and nurtured the ones coming up.”

Emmalynn is the daughter of Jamie and Lynn Hamer. Having them and the rest of her family there completed the special day for her.

It was a day she dreamt about.

“This has been a long time coming,” she said. “I have always wanted to cheer at the next level. It’s a dream come true to sign with Carson-Newman. To have my family here was made it all that much better.”

Emmalynn was selected to the All-State cheerleading team and got to cheer on the ‘Canes beating Morristown West in the Championship Classic this past season, which made her senior year her favorite, despite the pandemic.

“Even with the pandemic going on, I think this year was the best year. I got to cheer on the ‘Canes beat West in football,” she said.
