In a task force message Tuesday, Dr. Jeff Perry, Hamblen County school superintendent, announced that the school system will be attempting to host “one last game” for the senior athletes in the area.
While specific details were not given, Perry did provide basic information to update the community.
The games will be held from June 15-19. The tennis teams will compete on June 15, a soccer match will be held June 16, track and softball will both be on June 18 and baseball will conclude the week on June 19. All events are scheduled for 5:30 pm.
Perry said that each athlete will get four tickets for family members for the games, and that they can take pictures in their uniforms after the game. However, to comply with the TSSAA, the athletes will not be allowed to wear their jersey’s during the games.
Also addressed in the video was summer conditioning and practices for athletics. Perry announced that the school district will allow limited summer practicing and conditioning in small groups on June 1. Fall sports conditioning and practicing will begin on that date. Winter sports conditioning and practicing will begin on June 8.
“Again, it is important to understand that we will have small groups at these practice sessions,” Perry said.
Perry said that coaches have been given strict guidelines that will be needed to follow during these sessions. Athletes will not face consequences for not participating.
