From the Superintendent

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community,

Welcome back to another exciting year in the Hamblen County Schools! We have experienced an extremely successful start to the 2019-20 school year, and we hold the firm belief that our school district is in a constant state of improvement. We have made a tremendous amount of progress over the last few years and are extremely proud of what our staff and students have accomplished.

Please know that we are committed and dedicated to helping each child under our charge to reach his or her potential. We will be relentless in our efforts to keep them safe and to strengthen academic, as well as, career and technical skills.

We strive to create and maintain a purpose-driven curriculum. We design our programs of study and extracurricular programs to help students experience success after high school. We are not satisfied with students simply graduating from high school. We want their educational experiences to prepare them for life after secondary school. It is our intent to academically prepare students to enter the most elite colleges/universities in our nation and to be successful if that is the path they choose. It is also our mission to prepare students for success in our local community schools and universities if this is their path.

In addition, we want our programs of study to train students to be ready for the workforce if that is their intent. We are dedicated to providing our students with those technical/career skills which are in such high need in our local industries and across the nation. Our career and technical program is a model for school districts throughout the state, and we are extremely proud of what we have created. We also have a strong JROTC program which is an excellent opportunity for growth in students wanting to join our nation’s armed forces after high school. The school system is also supportive of the fine arts and attempt to provide students with a wide range of options to express individual talents. Students have the opportunity to participate in a number of fine arts programs such as debate, choir, band, art, music, drama, speech, and other programs.

We are structured and ready to provide our students with the necessary experiences, academic material, and extracurricular opportunities for them to be successful with whatever post-secondary path they elect to take. We are focused on educating the whole child and not simply having a child receive a diploma. We want that diploma to mean something and to adequately prepare them for post-secondary life.

We exist to serve this community. We will do all in our power to add considerable value to Hamblen County and to support our youth. Our youth are faced with a number of economic, social, financial and physical challenges on a daily basis. It is our responsibility to help them overcome these barriers and to live productive and enriched lives. The community is our client, and we strive every day to meet your needs.

The community has been very supportive of the school district, and we sincerely appreciate this support. We understand the majority of our local tax revenue is allocated to the school system. We will ensure these funds are used wisely, and we pledge to be good stewards of the county’s finances. We are committed to providing the best possible educational opportunities for our students. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can be of service to you. We wish you, and your family, the very best during this school year.
