BasketCase to open July 4 celebration at Cherokee Park

The rock band BasketCase will open for All My Rowdy Friends at the July Fourth Celebration in Cherokee Park.

Local rock favorite BasketCase will kick off the Hamblen County July Fourth Celebration at Cherokee Park.

Members include lead singer Ryan Roberts, bass player Mike Hawk and drummer Derek Mullins.

“We are a rock/alternative rock band,” Roberts said. “We play Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty; the Allman Brothers were big influences. Van Halen was my favorite band growing up. We’ve been playing together for a few years.”

BasketCase is a three-piece band who has a four-track demo coming out soon. They also have new tracks on Bandcamp for streaming.

“We’ve never played the July 4 celebration, but I’ve been down there a time or two,” he said. “It’s been a while since I’ve been there. Some of our acquaintances played there last year. We normally play in Knoxville, Johnson City and those places.

Roberts sees Morristown growing as a music performing venue.

“I think Morristown is starting to have a little more venues to pop up,” he said. “It’s starting to come back around again as people have bands around here.”

Ryan also listed as favorite artists Jim Croce, Steve Earl and Chris Knight.

“We’re all older and into the 80s music,” he said. “We’re sure looking forward to the Fourth of July. It’s going to be really cool.”

Music acts at the celebration are sponsored by Food City.
