Wilbur E. Coffey, 85, of Thorn Hill, born February 20, 1935, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020 at home with his family by his side.

Wilbur was a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. He was a retired business owner and a farmer most of his life. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter P. and Mamie Stapleton Coffey; sisters, Ann Holt and Freda Mallicoat; and brothers, Loyd (Jack) Coffey and R.B. Coffey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Kathryn Coffey; son, Steve (Beverly) Coffey; daughter, Judy (Jerry) Nye; grandchildren, Brandon (Aubrey) Kilby, Stephenie (Shawn) McGinnis and Zachary Kilby; great-grandchildren, Tinley and Maylee Kilby; brothers, Alton (Evelyn) Coffey and Vernon (Virginia) Coffey; sisters, Rose Davidson and Ethel “Tootsie” Herald; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 1 at Smith-Reagan Funeral Home in Rutledge, and 10 – 11 p.m., Thursday, July 2 at Mt Pleasant Methodist Church in Thorn Hill. Funeral Service will be at 11, Thursday with Rev. Denver Davidson and Rev. Jerry Epperson officiating. Graveside service to follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brett Coffey, Lucas Coffey, Mike Holt, Brandon Kilby, Zachary Kilby and Rodney Coffey. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Estes, David Cunningham, Rhea Scearce, Gary Rucker, Ray Milhorne, Shawn McGinnis, Earl Harville and Lodge brothers and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to be made to either Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church or to Thorn Hill Volunteer Fire Department in Mr. Coffey’s honor.
