Robert Bible

Robert H. Bible, Jr., 84, of Morristown, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Patricia (Peggy), parents, Robert Howell and Ruth Jackson Bible. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Nancy Eversole Bible, his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Dr. Kenyn Cureton, son, William (Bill) Bible, all of Morristown; grandchildren and their spouses: Kristen (Tyler) Johnson of Wake Forest, NC; Will (Erin) Cureton of Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond (Ray) and Barbara (Isenberg) Bible of Morristown, sister, Sarah (Bible) Demers of Manchester, NH; also, nieces and nephews: Gean Ann (Tim) Sing; Kathryn (Scott)Moore; Ed Bible, all of Morristown; Dr. Christopher (Linda) Demers of Reno, NV, Justin (Elizabeth) Demers of Park City, Utah.; several special great nieces and nephews, as well as special care givers Mildred Clark and Pat Proffitt.

Bob was born on July 5, 1935 and grew up in Morristown. In 1945, he made a profession of faith in Christ and was baptized into the membership of First Baptist Church, Morristown. He attended Morristown High School and was graduated from McCallie Prep School in Chattanooga. He then attended Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, and was graduated in 1959 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a BS in Insurance and Business Management. While at UT, he became a Prudential life insurance agent based out of Bible Insurance Agency, Inc. (BIA), which was started by his father in 1931. He was named Morristown’s Outstanding Young Man for 1965. He became a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Roundtable in 1973, having led the nation in sales for several years. Bob eventually became President of BIA. Even at 71, Bob was recognized as the Top Health Insurance Producer for BlueCross/BlueShield for the Knoxville region in 2006.

Bob was a member of First Baptist Church, Morristown, most of his life and served the Lord and his church in a number of capacities:

• Deacon (1977-84, 1990-93)

• Royal Ambassador Co-Director

• Sunday School Director (1976-81)

• Chairman of the Building Committee for the 1987 Sanctuary (1983-88)

• Property Committee Chair (1993)

Additionally, he served on numerous other committees at First Baptist as well as at Buffalo Trail Baptist Church, while a member during his son-in-law’s tenure there as pastor. Notably, Bob served from 1981-89 as a trustee for the Baptist Sunday School Board (now LifeWay Christian Resources), the publishing and distribution division of the Southern Baptist Convention and served as Chairman of its Executive Committee from 1986-88. He also served on the Committee on Committees for the Tennessee Baptist Convention from 2001-2002.

Bob was a leader in various Morristown civic endeavors, including:

• President, Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce (1990)

• Co-founding Planner, Panther Creek State Park (1966)

• Founding member, Board of Directors beginning in 1969 and Chairman of Building Committee of Central Services, a United Way Agency (1992-93)

• Board Director, Red Cross (1971-74)

• President, Keep America Beautiful (1991-94)

• Trustee, Carson Newman College (1993-1999 and 2008-2011)

• Chairman of the Advisory Board, Child and Family Services (1998-2000)

• Board of Trustees and Treasurer for The Encore Theatrical Company

Bob loved his community and spent his life serving in many capacities for the benefit of all the families, churches, and businesses. He will be missed by his family, his friends, and his community.
