Regenia K. Freeman Mason

Regenia K. Freeman Mason, age 70, of Newport, passed away October 4, 2019, at her home.

Her great-grandfather, Singer Sam Hall, was renowned for a deep-rooted love of music, a legacy passed on to Regenia’s rewarding life credits. Her music career began as a young child receiving piano lessons then proceeded to a music degree from the University of Tennessee.

Her extensive list of musical achievements includes UT Singers and the Newport Theatre Guild. Before retiring from Newport Grammar School, her leadership as the music teacher extended to director of the band and the choral group. Throughout the years she offered private piano lessons in her home. Many members of the community benefited from Regenia’s admirable influence for the joy of music. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newport.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Gene Freeman and is survived by her mother, Imogene Nease Freeman; husband, Charles Mason Sr.; son Charles ‘Chuck’ Mason Jr.; grandson, Jackson Mason; aunt, Barbara Nease Davis; and special friends, Addy Smith and Jabo and Tammy Francis.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2019, prior to the funeral services at 7 p.m. in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Rich Loyd officiating. Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in Union Cemetery.
