Johnie William “Jay/John” Bowman

Johnie William “Jay/John” Bowman, 81, of Bulls Gap, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 8, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was a loving husband, daddy, papaw, brother and friend to many. He loved to farm and watch his grandchildren play sports. Jay retired from Card and Label after 32 years of service. He was a faithful member of Bulls Gap Baptist Church for many years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lidge Bowman; mother, Charlsie Barnes; sisters, Betty Pinkston and Bernice Hogan; and brother, James (Tootler) Bowman.

Jay is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Maria Bowman; children, Kathie (Larry) Lyon, Diannia (Jayson) Kesterson, Stacey Bowman, Tracey (Amanda) Bowman and Troy Bowman; grandchildren, Tara Cox, Madison, Molley, Katilyn, and Kasie Bowman and Jhase Kesterson; sister, Mildred Carter; brother, Charles (Brenda) Bowman; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 5 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 12 at Bulls Gap Baptist Church in Bulls Gap. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with the Revs. Dwain Brewer and Paul Winchester officiating. The graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, June 13 at McCullough-Tieke Cemetery.
