Jimmy G. Mathis, born June 3, 1950, passed away suddenly at Johnson City Medical Center on October 19, 2019. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Jimmy served in the US Army for about three years and was employed by the Hancock County Board of Education for about 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelton and Nora Mathis; and sisters, Susie Mathis Davis and Thelma Ruth Mathis.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carol Yount Mathis of Sneedville; brothers, Bobby Mathis of Sneedville and Ben Mathis of Morristown; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 – 9 p.m., Tuesday, October 22 at McNeil Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 23 at McNeil Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Alonzo Collins and Larry Wolfe officiating Special music will be provided by The Gibsons. Interment will follow in the Yount Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Mathis, Dwayne Davis, Jason Mathis, Stacy Mathis, Larry Seal and Bill Seal. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Scotty Collins and Larry Stapleton.
