Fern Davis Keaton, 73, was born November 27, 1945, and passed away November 14, 2019 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System. She was saved at the age of 7 and was a life-long, faithful member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Fern was a kind soul who had many friends. She worked for many years in the school cafeterias of Seal-Mathis Elementary School and Hancock County High School. It was her great joy and pleasure to cook for and feed the many students through the years, always making sure they had plenty to eat. Later in life, Fern had a stroke that left her disabled and in a wheelchair. She inspired us all with her courage, endurance, and faith each day. She was a wonderful mother to her children, a caring wife to her husband, and a cheerful friend to many. She will always be fondly remembered.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Thea Davis and Velma Maloney Davis; sister, Loraine Davis Greer; and brothers, Rev. Bruce Davis and Jim Davis.
Left to mourn her loss is her loving family, including her husband of 52 years, Roy Keaton; sons, Bobby (Dana) and Mark Keaton; daughter, Janie (Bryon) Cole; grandchildren, Cortney, Jacob and Luke Keaton, and Amber and Ashley Estes; brother, Ralph (Marie) Davis; sisters, Linda (Roger) Green and Freda Davis; and a large host of nieces and nephews family and friends.
Special thanks to her wonderful special caregiver for nine years, Taylor Sexton Slone. Taylor was special to Mom and was a dear friend that we consider to be part of the family; Dr. John Short, who was dedicated to her care and is a good friend of the family; Hancock County Home Health Staff caregivers for years of wonderful care and to all others who helped with Mom in any way at all, to all those who spoke words of kindness, showed support and offered prayers and to everyone who loved Mom, thank you …. our hearts are full.
