Evelyn Marion Manly Stooksbury Foster, 103, of Jefferson City, born June 16, 1917 in Statesville, North Carolina to parents Arthur and Ocie Greene, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021. Evelyn was the last surviving member of the family.
Throughout her life she has experienced so much history of our nation and it was a pleasure to sit and talk with her about these events and growing up during these years. One of her proud accomplishments was her career at the original Jefferson Memorial Hospital in the dietary department for 20-plus years. Music and dancing were among her favorite things in life and would still get up and dance when she has the opportunity. Most sunny days you would find her sitting outside and enjoying God’s creation. When asked, “How are you?” she replied, “I’m doing the best I can.” And this is truly where her strength and faith in God was displayed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings, Ruth McDaniel, Arthur Greene Jr., Ocie Malone, Ed Greene and Jack Greene; three husbands, Marvin Manly, Fred Stooksbury and Otto Foster; son, Ray Manly; granddaughter, Donna Garrett Breeden; and son-in-law, Eugene Garrett.
She is survived by her son, Don (Mary Beth) Manly of Florida; daughters, Anne (Bobby) Phillips and Jean Garrett, all of Jefferson City; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Manley of New Market; seven grandchildren, Karen Phillips (Stephen) Lee, Paul Manley, Brad (Rhonda) Phillips, Mark (Allison) Garrett, Mark (Carol) Robert and her children, Jessica and Rachel) Manly, Kimberly (Matt) Gardiner and Pam (Chuck) Wilson; grandson-in-law, Richard Breeden; 14 great-grandchildren, Brittany (Warren) Walker, Tyler (Allie) Coffey, Chesney Coffey, Joe Phillips, Garrett Breeden, Mallory Breeden, Tatum Garrett, Aubrey Garrett, Luke Garrett, Jade Wilson, Quinn, Michael and James Gardiner; and three great-great-grandsons, Sean and Jacob Walker, and Kellen Coffey; sisters-in-law, Naomi Greene and Louise McDaniel; and several nieces and nephews.
