Clifford Howard Buchanan Jr., lovingly known to all as “Buddy,” was escorted into his heavenly home Monday, January 11, 2021. Buddy was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, a church family he loved with all his heart. He was a proud veteran, serving with the 278th Regimental Combat Team National Guard in Korea. In most recent years, he lived at Regency Retirement Center, where he was loved and pampered by the memory care staff.
Buddy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Anna Lou Hipsher Buchanan; his mother and father, Stella and Clifford Buchanan Sr.; sisters, Jean Susong and Betty Jo Lawson; and his son-in-law, Wayne Watkins.
He is survived by three daughters, Helen Anita Watkins, Leslie (Sam) Grigsby and Sheri (Steve) Canter; five grandchildren, Traci (Joey) Dickerson, Jason (Julia) Watkins, John (Jessica) Watkins, Anna (Jacob) Warren and Sarah Canter; five great-grandchildren; Jacob Dickerson, Addison Watkins, Wyatt Watkins, Juniper Watkins and Ivy Warren; as well as several nieces and nephews. His family were the loves and pride of his life.
The family thanks Becky Tuttle and her compassionate staff for making his home so comforting even during this horrible pandemic. The family also thanks Jefferson Park, Dandridge, for their special care, especially Jessi Ball. And finally, the family thanks Stephanie Hamill and her staff at Serenity House for the wonderful care, as well as Smoky Mountain Hospice.
Friends may pay their respects noon – 5 p.m., Wednesday, January 13 at Mayes Mortuary. A military graveside service will be held3 p.m., Thursday, January 14 at Hamblen Memory Gardens with Rev. David Williams and Mark Gibson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church Food Pantry or Serenity House Friends of Hospice.
The family requests all COVID-19 protocols be followed.
