Charlie Curtis (Pete) Murphy

Charlie Curtis (Pete) Murphy, 86, of Whitesburg, passed away at the UT Medical Center Saturday, September 15, 2019. Pete, as known to family and friends, retired from Berkline after forty-plus years. He attended Spruce Pine Church when his health permitted. Mr. Murphy was an avid Vols football fan and enjoyed UT basketball. He was happy, go lucky in life and a friend to all he met. Pete loved his family and told them often. He enjoyed his furry friends: cats, Nugget, Jimmy John, Allie and Chico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Murphy and Laura Murphy; brothers, Jack and Al Wayne.

He is survived by his companion of fifty years, Beatrice Roark of the home; daughter and husband, April and Paul Bean of Whitesburg; son, Curtis Murphy of Greeneville; granddaughter, Brooke Ricker and husband Chad of Greeneville; great-granddaughter, Heidi Reece Ricker of Greeneville; brother, Omer Murphy of Mooresburg; special friend and former daughter-in-law, Sandra Murphy of Afton; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

The family received friends Thursday, September 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Christian Sells Funeral Home. The funeral service followd at 7 p.m., with Charles Fillers officiating.

The graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2019 at Courtney Cemetery.
