Brian McLaughlin, a math teacher at Morristown-Hamblen High School West, has been named a finalist for state teacher of the year.

The state announced to the Hamblen County school system today that McLaughlin will take part in the final step of the Teacher of the Year selection. He will represent the First District, which makes up most of northeast Tennessee.

He will have a chance to compete for either the grand division winner for East Tennessee or overall winner at the state level. He is the second consecutive teacher from West High School to be named a finalist. Amy Whaley, computer and journalism teacher at the school, was named a finalist last year.
