Following a year off due to COVID-19, the Morristown Boys & Girls Club Steak & Burger Dinner is back for 2021 with a former Vol headlining the event.

This year, former Tennessee basketball player Admiral Schofield will speak at the banquet which will be held on Friday, July 16 at First Presbyterian Church.

The reception, which is for certain level sponsorships, will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner following at 6:30 p.m.

“We are super excited to have former UT standout Admiral Schofield as our featured guest speaker this year,” club director John Seals said. “Many remember his contributions during his four years at UT. We are just really excited to be able to hold our event again this year. We are hopeful that the community will continue to support this event and the Boys & Girls Club.

“We encourage everyone to mark their calendars and plan to attend this event that supports over 1,600 youth.”

This will be the 18th year of the Steak & Burger dinner. The dinner allows those in the community to buy seats at different sponsorship levels or a whole table which allows them to bring up to six people. Two club members are then placed at each table. Any kid that attends is fed steaks while the adults are given burgers.

The event, which has become hugely popular within the community over the years, was cancelled last year after COVID-19 interfered. Now, Seals said, he is just happy to be able to have this special event once again.

“We have been fortunate to weather the storm of COVID-19,” Seals said. “The Boys & Girls Club has been a pillar in the community for a long time, and we are so blessed and appreciative of the support we have been given by this community. We hope that the support will continue this year.”

A native of Zion, IL, Schofield arrived on Rocky Top in the fall of 2015, playing all four years at UT under Rick Barnes.

Following a successful first two years at Tennessee, Schofield broke onto the scene his junior season, leading the Vols to an SEC Regular Season Title. Schofield was a Second-team All-SEC honoree who led the Vols in rebounding with 6.3 rpg. He averaged 13.9 ppg as the Vols made the Round of the 32 before being upset by Loyola Chicago.

During his senior season, Schofield upped his game as he helped the Vols to a Sweet Sixteen appearance. The Vols were ranked No. 1 in country for multiple weeks that season after Schofield scored 30 points against previously top ranked Gonzaga.

Schofield was named to the All-SEC First Team and was later drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 42nd pick of the 2019 NBA Draft before being traded to the Wizards.

As a rookie, Schofield appeared in eight games for the Wizards, averaging 5.1 ppg and 3.8 rpg. He was then traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Nov. 19, 2020 before being the first pick in the G League Draft by the Greensboro Swarm on Jan. 11, 2021. Schofield appeared in 14 games for the Swarm, averaging 10.1 ppg and 5.8 rpg.

There are several options to support the dinner at which the adults are served burgers and the kids eat steak.
