The Newport Utilities Board meeting Tuesday was told, out of an abundance of caution and to protect utility employees, the administrative lobby will remain closed through the end of the year.
General Manager Michael Williford also reported Gov. Bill Lee announced electronic board meetings may be continued through the end of the year.
Waterworks Manager Clint Hammonds announced, after 16 years with the utility, he will be leaving to accept another opportunity.
The board also approved the purchase of a small bucket truck and a stand-by truck through state bid, for a total cost of $216,000.
Plans call for the replacement of cast iron piping on Industrial Road along with upgrading the water line at the intersection of the planned Newport Bypass with Industrial Road.
