New wheels arrive for Girls Inc.

A Jefferson Federal grant and two private donors combined to purchase a new 15-passenger van for Girls Inc.

“Sometimes during what feels like the hardest of times, the most wonderful light will suddenly shine,” said Girls Inc. of Hamblen County Executive Director Lise Bender.

Thanks to a generous grant and two private donors, one group of girls in the Girls Inc. afterschool program are being picked up in a new 15-passenger Ford Transit van.

“A Jefferson Federal Charitable Foundation grant coupled with funds given by an anonymous benefactor, and Kenny Noah with Southeast Industrial, LLC made the impossible possible for us this year.” says Bender. “Once we got the good news about the grant funding, the staff at Morristown Ford helped us search for and purchase exactly the vehicle we needed. Their help was invaluable.”

Girls Inc. is still safely hosting an afterschool program but due to continuing pandemic conditions, only at 50% capacity until Centers for Disease Control and Prevention safety restrictions lift.

Girls Inc. of Hamblen County has been serving girls ages 6 to 18 with educational and recreational programs in the greater Hamblen County communities since 1972. Girls Inc’s research-based programming and trained staff focus on the development of the whole girl by supporting, mentoring, and guiding her to discover and develop her interests and strengths.
