Walters State Community College’s Department of Music and Theatre will hold auditions for the fall production of “Mr. Burns” at 6 p.m. on Sept. 3, 4 and 5 in the theatre of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex. The play will be produced in October.

The Anne Washburn dark comedy begins in a post-apaloptic world. Gathered around a campfire, survivors entertain themselves by trying to remember an episode of “The Simpsons.” The play then follows the survivors as a new world begins and snippets of pop culture like commercials and songs become entertainment standards. The play ends 75 years later, when these memories yield new performance methods and society tries desperately to hold on to its glorious past.

T.J. Kent, director and instructor of theatre, is looking for three men and five women ages 14 an older. Rappers and those who play acoustic instruments are encouraged to apply, although many roles do not require these special skills.

Those auditioning should prepare a one or two minute monologue from a modern play and 16 bars of a pop or rock song performed acapella.
