A Morristown woman injured in a head-on crash on East Andrew Johnson Highway early Saturday morning remained hospitalized this morning in a trauma surgical intensive care unit at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, a hospital spokeswoman said this morning.
No information was available on Glendi Diaz’s condition. Diaz, 38, was driving a Nissan Rogue that was struck by a GMC pickup driven by Ward John Catron Jr., a 32-year-old Bulls Gap man. Catron, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died in the predawn crash.
A passenger in Diaz’s vehicle, 24-year-old Mirella Juarez, was treated for her injuries at UT Medical Center and released, according to the hospital spokesperson.
Catron was passing a car on a blind hill across on a double yellow line when the crash occurred. The vehicle Catron was passing was not involved in the crash, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
