Victim of fatal dog attack identified

Amber Miller, 29, of Newport has been identified as the victim in a fatal animal attack on July 12 in an incident report released by the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 12, a deputy was dispatched to the emergency room of the Newport Medical Center where she made contact with two witnesses who said they found the woman sitting on the property of 522 Jimtown Road who had been apparently attacked by dogs.

When they found her, they said three dogs were seen near the victim.

One of the witnesses was able to get Miller into his truck and transported her to the emergency room.

The report said medical staff advised officials that Miller suffered massive injuries to her calf and arms.

Miller was immediately airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville and reportedly died on July 18.

The CCSO is also investigating the death by animal attack of Tony Ahrens, 69, whose body was found on April 1 near the intersection of Carnation Way and Jimtown Road, which is around 200 feet from the location where Miller was discovered.

Both deaths are under ongoing investigations, and the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The sheriff’s office is advising caution for anyone travelling in the Jimtown Road area.
