A Greeneville man died when his car turned over in the median at the 17 mile mark of Interstate 81 south Friday morning.
According to a preliminary accident report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, around 7:10 a.m., a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Andrew Doyle, 51, was traveling southbound on Interstate 81 when it ran off the roadway, corrected, then over corrected off the roadway into the median.
The Malibu struck an embankment, overturned and rolled four times before Doyle was ejected out the driver’s side window into the grass. The car rolled once more landing upright where it came to final rest facing south in the median.
Doyle was not wearing a seat belt, which Trooper Marotta stated would have made a difference in the outcome. Alcohol and drug testing has been ordered. The investigation is continuing at this time.
