A Hawkins County motorcyclist and a rider on her dirt bike died Tuesday afternoon when the bike rolled from a yard on Carters Valley Road in Church Hill into the path of a pickup, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Trooper David Pierce identified the deceased as Mavis T. Feagans, a 28-year-old Church Hill resident, and Heather N. Braswell, a 28-year-old woman from Surgoinsville. Funeral arrangements for Feagans and Braswell had not been announced in Morristown by late this morning.

The driver of the Dodge pickup that collided with Feagans’ Honda dirt bike, Terry R. Larkins, 67, Church Hill, will not be charged. Neither Larkins nor his passenger, 76-year-old Larry Larkins, was injured, according to Pierce.

Around 3:45 p.m., Feagans rode through a yard in the 4600 block of Carters Valley Road “directly into the path” of Larkins pickup. Feagans and Braswell were not wearing helmets, but the trooper opined that helmets would not have prevented their deaths, according to a preliminary crash report.
