Two Cocke County women were injured Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Deerfoot Road in the Cosby community.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the 2:12 a.m. crash occurred near the Country Square Road intersection.

Melissa Potts, 49, Cosby, was operating a 1998 Subaru northbound when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway and traveled down an embankment.

A passenger in the front seat, Brandy James, 33, Bullard Drive, Newport, was ejected and the Subaru rolled, coming to rest on its top partially on top of her.

James was flown to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville

Potts was taken by First Call EMS to the Newport Medical Center for treatment.

The Highway Patrol says neither occupant of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.

Potts is charged with vehicular assault, DUI, failure to exercise due care, failure to maintain lane usage, as well as seatbelt, insurance and registration violations. The driver also was wanted on two counts violation of probation.

James was wanted on a criminal court capias charging that she failed to appear in court to enter a plea on an aggravated assault charge.
