First Responders at the scene of a wreck involving a horse trailer on U.S. Highway 25E.

A horse inside a trailer travelling on U.S. 25E near the South Hamblen Volunteer Fire Department died in a Thursday night crash.

According to a report from the Morristown Police Department, around 7:24 p.m., Thursday, a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Michael Rouse, 44, of White Pine, was attempting to make a wide turn off of U.S. 25E near the South Hamblen Volunteer Fire Department.

A 1995 Freightliner truck driven by Paul A. Plante, 57, of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, was also traveling in the right lane pulling a livestock trailer. Plante was driving for Rotz Livestock of Shippensburg.

Plante’s vehicle was traveling in the right lane when Rouse’s vehicle came from the left lane. Plante tried to avoid the crash by moving into the left lane. Plante’s vehicle clipped Rouse’s truck and went into the median.

In the collision, one horse was killed but several others survived the wreck. It took crews several hours to clear the wreck.
