Two Jefferson City men are facing charges regarding meth and other controlled substance charges pertaining to an incident Monday afternoon.
According to a statement from the Jefferson City Police Department, around 5 p.m., Sergeants Jimmy Cardwell and Wesley Beckner, of the Jefferson City Police Department, responded to a suspicious person complaint at Walmart on East Broadway Boulevard. It was reported that a suspicious man was “sanding” on the cart return bin. The officers attempted to speak with the man, but he became uncooperative. Following a brief struggle, the male suspect, later identified as Jerry S. Lawless, 43, of Jefferson City, was taken into custody. He was found to be in possession of over 33 grams of suspected methamphetamine and other drugs.
Lawless was accompanied by Franklin C. Warner, 57, of Jefferson City, who was also arrested for being in possession of suspected illegal drugs. Both were transported to the Jefferson County Justice Center where Lawless was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, public intoxication, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simple possession of Schedule V and VI controlled substances, and possession of paraphernalia. The vehicle the men were using, as well as cash were seized as a result of the felony drug violations.
