Speeding stop leads to interstate drug arrest

Jefferson County deputies with the patrol and street crimes division stopped a vehicle for speeding on I-40 earlier this week leading to the arrest of the driver on methamphetamine distribution charges.

Sheriff Jeff Coffey identified the driver as Darrell W. Kinley, no age given, Good Hope Road, Parrottsville.

Deputy Joseph Owens and Cpl. Jeremy Lemonde requested the assistance of a K-9 at the scene and Sgt. Tim Herzog deployed his K9 partner Ryker, who alerted on the vehicle.

The sheriff says a subsequent search of the 2010 Dodge Avenger resulted in the seizure of 70 grams of methamphetamine. Deputies seized approximately $3,122 in cash from Kinley and the vehicle also was seized.

Kinley was jailed in the Jefferson County Detention Center on a charge of possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and deliver.
