Editor’s Note: The name of the Holiday Hope Fund recipient has been changed to protect the identity of the family.
For Rhonda, the Citizen Tribune Holiday Hope Fund is an answered prayer.
“I’ve been single for a little while now,” she said. “Before my three older boys moved out, I was getting the Citizen Tribune Holiday Hope Fund for them, too. Now it’s me and my six-year-old. We’re really excited that there are programs like this.”
Her son, who is in first grade, has Down’s syndrome and the family struggles financially.
“When you don’t have the money coming in, there’s not a whole lot you can do,” Rhonda said.
For years, when the three older boys were at home, Rhonda used the Hope Fund to help with Christmas, as well as having a great Christmas dinner.
“It’s just a wonderful program to have for the less fortunate. It helps the whole community and helps to give to the less fortunate,” Rhonda said. “All around, it’s just a good program.”
Rhonda said that she wouldn’t be able to have Christmas without the HHF, due to her finances.
“I wouldn’t be able to do anything with the bills. There’s not enough programs that will help with toys,” she said.
The Citizen Tribune Holiday Hope Fund provides a miracle that many families need this holiday season.
An estimated 1,500 families will get a Citizen Tribune Holiday Hope Fund food box including a turkey breast, fresh apples, oranges, potatoes, rolls, macaroni and cheese, brownie mix, sugar, flour, canned green beans, canned corn, canned peas and pinto beans. The box contains multiples of some of those items and the fresh produce comes bagged.
