Sales tax holiday begins Friday

The 2021Tennessee Sales Tax Holiday is this weekend and the Tennessee General Assembly has approved two more sales tax holidays in addition to the traditional sales tax holiday on clothing, school supplies, and computers.

Tennessee’s traditional sales tax holiday on clothing, school supplies and computers begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2021.

Certain restrictions do apply. For example, apparel that costs $100 or less per item and computers costing more than $1500 are not eligible for the tax break.

For this year only and for a week’s time, the state legislature has approved a sales tax holiday on food, food ingredients and prepared food which begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 30 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, August 5.

In addition to the tax breaks on school supplies and food, the Tennessee General Assembly has approved a sales tax holiday on gun safes and safety devices that begins at 12:01 a.m. on July 1 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2022.
