Race car and trailer burns on East AJ Highway

A race car in a car hauler caught fire Saturday morning completely destroying the trailer holding it, officials said.

Morristown Fire Department Lt. Darrell Hodge said a driver of a Chevrolet C-130 truck was hauling the race car on East Andrew Johnson Highway around 11 a.m. when he noticed smoke coming from the 30-foot trailer.

He opened the trailer door to see the car on fire.

Hodge said the straps tying the car down burned off and it rolled off across the roadway.

The trailer was a complete loss and it was not known the extent of damage to the car, Hodge said.
