NWS: More severe weather expected after brief respite

A double rainbow shines over Crockett Square in East Morristown Thursday night following a round of severe weather coming through the Lakeway Area. Another round of storms are expected Friday night into Saturday morning and lasting through Sunday.

The National Weather Service in Morristown issued a warning Friday that strong storms would come through the regions, starting tonight and ending Sunday.

“Several rounds of storms will move across southwest Virginia, East Tennessee and southwest North Carolina from late tonight through Sunday,” the press release states.

The National Weather Service said some of these storms will be “strong to severe.”

“Confidence is low on the exact timing and location of these storms,” the release states.

The weather service predicts there could be damaging wind and hail. The organization also warned of localized flash flooding over the next two days.

The potential storms come after several storms have run through the Lakeway Area over the last week.

On Monday, an intense storm that ran through Cocke and Jefferson counties knocked out power to more than 4,000 people while heavy rains have fallen throughout the rest of the week.
