Newport woman dies in crash on 25E-State 160

A Newport woman was killed Friday afternoon when her car collided with an oncoming car as both vehicles tried to enter U.S. 25E south.

Whitney Leighann Holt, 26, of Newport, was ejected from the passenger’s side window and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a report from the Morristown Police Department, a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Holt, was attempting to make a left turn from State Highway 160 onto Davy Crockett Parkway U.S. Highway 25E. A 2018 Ford Mustang driven by Brian Barnard, 52, of Morristown was traveling north on State Highway 160. As Holt was making the turn, the Cavalier made the turn in front of the Mustang, colliding with the Mustang. The Mustang struck a stop sign and a guardrail. The Cavalier rotated before coming to a final rest and Holt was ejected out the passenger side window.

Barnard was taken to Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System for treatment of potentially serious injuries. The crash is still under investigation at this time.
